Networks using social bookmarking

National Wildlife Federation

Danielle Brigida is on the operations team at the National Wildlife Federation and has had some great success with social bookmarking and tagging. They decided to try out Digg and submitted an article on Endangered Cats. The content was great and many people "voted" for it. It was ranked high enough to get put on the coveted Frontpage of Digg. That, Brigida said, "was the difference between getting 30 and 30,000 pageviews." By the end of the month the page had 48,000 views.

The key to getting popular on Digg is to have interesting, high quality content. To feel out what would be interesting, Brigida turned to the organization's blog. After posting on certain topics, she would pay attention to the blog stats. If a post received a lot of attention, she knew it would be a good try to Digg.

The most important things to remember, she says, is to learn the networks and be patient. Learn what will work best for your organization, and spend the time it takes to build relationships and trust.
