Using other blogs

Getting involved in the blogosphere involves both publishing a blog, and promoting your opinions on other blogs. An effective blog outreach strategy might include the following tasks:

  1. First, know where the conversations are taking place. We monitor blogs using a couple of free and easy tools including Technorati and Bloglines. Click here for a more complete list.

  1. Join the conversations. You should be contributing to online conversations in your field. This might involve commenting on relevant blogs when/where appropriate – for example if a notable blog is making false assumptions about an issue. Remember to check the USITW messaging points to frame your responses on blogs.

  1. Promote your organization’s work and opinion on related blogs – for example if a blogger is talking about an issue you’ve just written a report on, write a comment linking to the report.
